Introducing Skillman Chiropractors, Drs. Mike and Heidi Kaufman

Skillman Chiropractor Dr. Michael Kaufman

“I admit, I was a skeptic,” remembers Dr. Michael Kaufman. “My parents insisted I try chiropractic since I was experiencing severe low back pain that prevented me from getting in or out of a car. I was reluctant, but to humor my parents I made an appointment to see a chiropractor.”  "I had reoccurring ear infections when my mother brought me to a chiropractor," recalls Dr. Heidi Kaufman.  "I was doubtful, but I went."

“It was incredible,” continues Dr. Mike. “I’ll never forget that first adjustment. I had immediate relief and was able to attend a fraternity alumni cruise that night. One month later, I declined an acceptance to graduate school for my MBA and applied to chiropractic school.”  "I didn't get immediate results, but my experience was just as incredible," says Dr. Heidi.  "After a month, my ear infections were a memory and my sinuses cleared up as well.  Soon after, I declined a job offer in Boston in my field of child development to become a chiropractor."

Dr. Mike began his education at Muhlenberg College where he graduated with a degree in business management.  Dr. Heidi's pre-chiropractic education was conducted at Duquesne University.  She earned her bachelor's degree with a dual major in early child development and elementary education.

Once dedicated to chiropractic, Dr. Mike attended Life University, College of Chiropractic.  Dr. Heidi attended Logan College of Chiropractic. During their four years at chiropractic school, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, X-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the public clinic. Dr. Mike is certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and Dr. Heidi is currently completing her diplomate in Chiropractic Neurology at the esteemed Carrick Institute.

“We love skeptics,” smiles Dr. Heidi. “I still remember the concerns and apprehension I had when I went to the chiropractor for the first time. We make it a point to explain everything in advance, answer questions and keep open lines of communication with our patients. Patients appreciate that.”

Dr's. Mike and Heidi Kaufman enjoy being active members of the community.  Dr. Mike is a firefighter and a Vice President with the Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Company #2.  Dr. Heidi is an Advertising Chair for the Thomas Edison University Annual Gala.  They are both involved in fund raising for the Association for the Advancement of Mental Health.

Dr. Kaufman Asks some important questions of interest to Skillman residents - Chiropractor Skillman Dr. Kaufman Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
Are aches and pains good or bad?
While aches or pains may be unpleasant, they're merely warning signs. As a Skillman chiropractor, I see this all the time. The pain is not the problem! It just means a limitation has been reached and something needs to change. That's when we get to work correcting the underlying cause.
